| A misty, moisty, morning walk to the Pont du Gard. Then a drive to the ancient Roman city of Nîmes, from which we get the name of our rugged jean material, denim. The city boasts an ancient coliseum as well as the temple-like building called the Maison Carré or square house. We went to the museum directly across from this building and saw an exhibition by a German artist named Vera Lutter, who works in very large format camera obscura photos, printed on plexiglass. Impressive as an expression of an artistic vision but the works left me unmoved with her giant images of post-industrial ruins. |
