Picking grapes is kind of dirty, sticky, and for some of the time pretty hot in the sun, but really fun and satisfying work. Each cluster, especially when they're perfect like these, weighs about a pound in your hand. You work across the row with a buddy and can chat while you work. And of course you have to taste them periodically to see if they're suitable! Today the pickers were a multinational mix: France, Germany, Norway, Iran, Canada, USA, England and Australia. Lunch on the long tables in the vineyard is the reward for all our labors.
